The All New All Star Cliff Johnson Band Debut!!!

The NEW CLIFF JOHNSON BAND!

The Cliff Johnson Band Headlines IPO TONITE!

As many of you probably know, tonight is the final night of this year’s IPO Chicago.
The headlining act is The Cliff Johnson Band, led by the singer/songwriter of
the legendary Chicago power pop band, Off Broadway (“Stay In Time”, etc…),

Cliff has also led, at various times Pezband, d’Thumbs, USSA, & Black ‘n Blonde.

The PREMIERE PERFORMANCE of the CLIFF JOHNSON Band is just Hours Away!!!

Cliff Is scheduled to perform at 11:30 at The Abbey.

I just spoke with Cliff a few minutes ago and he ASSURED me his mic will be ON!!

Off Broadway played their final show several months ago, because Cliff wanted to put his own band together and do songs he’s written since the Off Broadway days.  They
have a new CD, and it is a masterpiece.

Of course, the rest of tonight’s lineup is pretty damn awesome, too!

Anyway, we are hoping that as many of you as possible will come out tonight to
see Cliff and the rest of the bands.  The Folks at International Pop Overthrow could honestly use your support. They have been amazing supporters over the years for the kind of music we all have grown to know is, without a doubt, the best!

Please forward this to your friends, your neighbors, your band mates, and tell your fan bases-I think many of them would want to see Cliff as well.

Thanks very much,

The Cliff Johnson Team!!!

Message from Cliff/Fan Comments

“Thank you to everyone for your kind and receptive attendance at the Annual Off Broadway Christmas show. It was a privilege to perform at what I consider YOUR event. Post production on the DAT 32 track audio and three camera video acquisition begin next week for a finished event DVD available in the spring. Have a great and prosperous Christmas season — Cliff”

Some fan comments on the OB Christmas show:

  • Superior Performance, maybe the best ever.
  • There was a packed house .
  • Wonderful CROWD rapport, great press coverage.
  • The merchandise booths were overflowing with customers.
  • New songs were performed.  Marvelous receptive fans.
  • The mojo in the room was dripping. Cliff is off to the races!

Special Report from Longtime Friend Of The Family – Kevin A.

(Edited for Space)

Awesome show with an enthusiastic crowd! They of course played all the hits plus a few early OB oldies — Mike Gorman stepped to the mic to introduce the Cliff Johnson/Pete Comita penned classic “Now You Got It Comin’”, a personal favorite of mine from the d’Thumbs/early Off Broadway days.

Great fun during “Hang On For Love” when Cliff pulled out and sang a list of songs that he has inserted during the breakdown over the years — too many to recite here.

Also included in the set were three tunes from Cliff’s new, soon-to-be-released CD “Little Crimes” that I thought came off very well; “Look To Tomorrow”, “Run” and “Around the World”. The cover selections were great also, including the Beatles “And Your Bird Can Sing” and “Rain” plus Badfinger’s “Baby Blue” with guest Jay Goeppner of The Beatle Brothers jumping onstage to help out on the latter two — nice touch.

Many references to the fan’s support over the years (31 years, can you believe it??) and comments like
“…you never know what might happen…”

Oak Park/River Forest Journal

Off Broadway is Off

All good things come to an end, and one of the best things to come out of Chicago in the late 1970s was Off Broadway. The band, which lead singer Cliff Johnson calls “The Greatest Band The World Never Heard,” will perform its last show Friday night at FitzGerald’s nightclub, 6615 W. Roosevelt Road, Berwyn.

CLIFF INTERVIEWED IN Sun-Times

When Oak Parker Cliff Johnson hits the stage Friday night at Fitzgerald’s in Berwyn as the lead singer/songwriter of longtime Chicago-area rockers Off Broadway, it will mark both the end of an era and a new beginning.

Johnson was a founding member of Off Broadway in 1978 and has been through all of the ups and downs with a band that released two major-label albums in the early 1980s and continues to have a strong area following.

Friday’s Off Broadway show at Fitzgerald’s, 6615 Roosevelt Road, has become an annual holiday tradition. But it will be the last time Johnson and his band perform together.

Johnson has decided to put Off Broadway in his past and move on to a new chapter in his musical career and life.
